Ironing Tips
Ironing Tips for a Wrinkle-Free Wardrobe
These practical ironing tips will help you look your best by keeping cotton clothes wrinkle-free.
Follow iron manufacturer’s recommendations for steam setting.
Set the iron to the temperature recommended for the fiber content. 100% cotton usually
requires a higher heat setting, while cotton blends tend to call for medium heat.
Before you begin ironing, inspect the item for stains that may have not been removed properly
during the wash. Ironing over a stain can cause the stain to set in permanently.
Keep moving the garment to adjacent sections, being sure not to create more wrinkles by
ironing the same area twice!
If the item is heavily wrinkled, lightly spray it with a spray starch before ironing. It is important
to keep in mind that too much starch can cause the garment to wrinkle more when worn.
Sometimes simply using a spray bottle filled with water to dampen cotton shirts before ironing
will provide the relaxation of wrinkles to be easily removed with ironing.
Keep the iron moving every few seconds when it is touching the fabric. Keeping the iron in
one area for too long can cause scorching.
When ironing an item with sleeve plackets and buttons, work around the area with the tip of
the iron.
