Putting An End To Frumpy Mom Jeans
Slimming Advice to Stay Fashionable at Any Age
They’re dubbed “mom jeans” and you’ve seen them before: they’re those unflattering high-waist denim jeans with the 9-inch zipper that add to your muffin-top, when your intention was to casually hide your belly bulge. Regardless of your age or “status” there is no better example of what jeans not to wear. After all, just because you’re a mom doesn’t mean you instantly trade in fabulous for frumpy.
Whether you’re in your 20’s or 50’s, the key to figure flattering denim is to select jeans that follow the natural curve of your body. If you are looking for a pair of denim jeans that will work on nearly everybody shape, go for a dark denim rinse with a bootcut or trouser cut for women who are bottom heavy.
There’s no excuse for mom jeans, so the next time you’re shopping for denim, consider some of our tips for the non-mom jean solution.
The Non-Mom Jean Solution:
Legs:
To create the appearance of longer legs, opt for a pair of straight leg denim, making sure the hem on your denim jeans reaches the top of your shoe. If you prefer a boot cut, make sure it covers your heel.Thighs:
Cigarette Leg or Skinny Jeans look best on thin legs while boot cut denim flatters larger thighs. Stay away from bell bottoms unless you are intentionally trying to accentuate thighs.Waist:
Denim jeans with a waistline that hits right below the bellybutton are generally most flattering. The right pair of jeans is more about fit and body type than it is about age. If you have been fortunate enough to overcome saddle bags and muffin top, then feel free to go as low as you can without creating belly bulge.Curves:
The curvier woman should always purchase her denim jeans with a hint of stretch and when possible, a wider, less defined waistband. Stretch denim places jeans just above the hips, eliminating unwanted bulge.Finding a terrific fitting pair of jeans doesn’t have to be daunting. While you may not necessarily want to wear your daughter’s low-rise denim, there’s certainly no need to bring back those frumpy mom jeans. In fact, my advice would be to get rid of them as soon as you’re done reading this article. Donate them to our Cotton From Blue To Green® Denim Drive or use them for your next denim craft. But whatever you do, make sure those jeans never rear their ugly head in your wardrobe again.
