There are a few rules when it comes to wearing denim jeans in the office, especially when you want to alternate your look from work-wear to evening. Keep your look neat and tidy—no distressed denim, no low-rise, and stay away from anything too baggy or form-fitting. Denim trousers are great in the office, but tapered styles and boot cut lengths look great in any setting, for a look that’s ready to play without feeling straight out of the office.
The Denim Skirt
A denim skirt is perfect for transitioning from office hours to happy hour. Styles slightly above the knee are office appropriate and can be worn with a light-weight cardigan and feminine blouse during the day—simply ditch the cardigan when you’re ready for some after-work mingling.
The Denim Dress
The same rules apply to denim dresses that apply to any other dress in the corporate casual environment. Make sure your dress isn’t too revealing; denim tube dresses are a no-go unless you plan on layering the dress over a cotton blouse, or pairing it with a wrap sweater. The best part about wearing a denim dress to the office is that it’s easy to transition to cocktail hour. With this denim number, it’s all about the shoes and the accessories. Classic pumps and studs are great for a daytime look, but when night falls, you’ll want to slip into your gladiator heels and accessorize with bangles and chunky jewelry.
