Take a "Staycation"

Relax and Recharge In Destination Home

Does your stressful life have you wishing for a vacation these days, but your wallet doesn’t have room for it? Cotton Incorporated Lifestyle MonitorTM data reveal that 47% of female respondents cut back on travel or vacation plans due to the negative impact the economic crisis has had on their financial situations. But staycations are a great way to relax and recharge without breaking the bank. Here are a few ideas for ways you and your family can spend the time together, all while using your favorite fiber, cotton.

Camp out. Pitch a tent in your backyard and spend the night under the stars. If you don’t have a backyard, or if it’s still covered in snow, take some cotton bedsheets and pitch a tent in your family room. Your kids will love it as much as you did. Purchase an inexpensive set of cotton bed sheets from JC Penney or Target, and you’ll have an extra set for impromptu overnight guests or ghostly Halloween costumes.

Get active! Explore nature on a hike through your local forest preserve. To find a national park close to home, visit www.nps.gov/findapark/index.htm

Hosta movie night. Pop some homemade popcorn, and cuddle together under a cozy cotton quilt from Land’s End to enjoy the film.

Plana picnic. Head to the park, the arboretum, or even the zoo. Pack a lunch from home with classics like fried chicken, potato salad and coleslaw. Don’t forget to bring an old cotton bedsheet or cotton throw blanket to spread out on the grass for a relaxing afternoon outside.

Get creative. Plan an afternoon of arts & crafts with your kids, and get in touch with your own inner child. Create unique, one-of-a-kind cotton t-shirts using simple iron-on designs – no sewing required! Purchase an inexpensive 5-pack of white cotton Hanes t-shirts and everyone can make his or her own.

Follow these tips for a stay-cation that’s wallet-friendly and fun for the whole family, and return to work relaxed and recharged. Want even more ideas? Visit the Better Homes & Gardens website for their list of the best stay-cation ideas: www.bhg.com/health-family/activities/seasonal/staycation
